Isla Mujeres, a small island just off the coast near Cancun, Mexico, is a perfect example of a tropical paradise. It features laid-back Caribbean charm, gorgeous white-sand beaches that slowly sink into azure-blue water, interesting local culture, great restaurants and small non-chain hotels. While there is a touristy section near the ferry landing from Cancun, much of the island is fun to explore in the ever-present motorized golf carts that visitors can rent. There are numerous water parks and beach clubs, nice restaurants and several dive bars (and we don’t mean scuba!). Toward the far end of the island is a quiet, unassuming boutique hotel that just happens to hold secret riches: spectacular sunset views, 10 outstanding hotel rooms and suites, (including one of the largest master suites you will have ever seen in your life!), and an amazingly helpful and charming staff that will take care of your every need.
It turns out that they also offer full packages for destination weddings held down at their waterside palapa restaurant, bar, and pier. It’s even possible to arrive by boat to the hotel in case someone wants to make an entrance to your wedding with their usual flair!
The hotel features a beautiful and relaxing spa downstairs for massages and other health treatments, and the staff can arrange any sort of tour or activity on the island or nearby on the mainland. There are other hotels and private villas nearby in case of overflow guests. We are sure that these photos will give you a great sense of just how romantic a venue this would be for your destination wedding!
The sunsets, the myriad blue colors of the water, the tropical breezes, the luxuriously-appointed accommodations—what more could you need?
INTERESTED? Here are the details:
LOGISTICS: Arriving to this house on Isla Mujeres really does mean getting away from it all—it requires no fewer than FOUR means of transportation to get there!
AIR: For all of Isla Mujeres, it’s best to use Cancun International Airport. See our recent blog post on nonstop flights to Cancun from major US and Canadian cities.
LAND: Once you land in Cancun you’ll need to either arrange a private transfer to the Puerto Juarez port at the north end of Cancun or you can take a combination of buses to arrive there (Autobuses del Oriente regular service every 30 minutes from the airport to downtown Cancun and then a taxi or city bus –Routes 1 or 10).
SEA: Once at Puerto Juarez, you can buy tickets on the Ultramar catamaran ferry mentioned above that runs every 30 minutes during daylight hours for the quick 20-minute jaunt over to the island. Round-trip tickets currently cost $300 Mexican pesos, or a little more than $16 US dollars.
ISLAND: Upon arrival, you can hail a taxi just to the left as you exit the ferry terminal. Most people get around the island in gasoline-powered golf carts, so don’t worry too much about renting a car. It’s approximately 4 miles long by only ½ mile wide, so it’s never very far from one place to another. The hotel will rent you a golf cart for whenever you’d want one.
OTHER LODGING NEARBY: In case your group is bigger than the max 26 guests who could stay at this boutique hotel, there are other lodging options nearby, including a private villa with six bedrooms just across the street and another set of apartments just down the street. We can certainly help you arrange any such options for your guests.
RENTAL and EVENT OPTIONS:
Couples wishing to wed here must use one of the three hotel wedding packages, all of which include one night’s stay for up to 26 guests in the 10 rooms and breakfast for them the next morning. Those packages currently range in price between $11,450-$17,600 US dollars plus tax. In high season, an event requires a one-week rental in the hotel, and in low season, it requires a two-day rental.
