How Much Does a Private Villa Wedding in Puerto Vallarta Actually Cost? A Planner’s Real Numbers
By Robert Schley, Mexico Event Design
One of the first requests we get from almost every couple is some version of: “Please send us your packages,” or “Just give us a real number.”
We understand the frustration. Search “Puerto Vallarta wedding cost” and you’ll find a lot of wide ranges, vague disclaimers, and advice that essentially amounts to “it depends.” Which is true, but not very useful when you’re trying to figure out whether this is even in your budget before you spend months planning.
Here’s what we can offer you instead. We’re going to give you actual numbers from our real quotes for 2026, organized into four service levels, and explain honestly what each one gets you — and what it doesn’t.
One important thing to understand before we start: the numbers below are for wedding event services only. They do not include the villa rental itself, which is a separate and significant cost. We’ll explain that at the end. Both costs together give you the real picture.
All figures are in U.S. dollars and based on 50 guests — a typical group size for the private villa weddings we plan. We’re using the current exchange rate of 17.5 Mexican pesos to 1 US dollar (this changes daily, so please calculate accordingly). Mexican IVA (value-added tax) of 16% is included in every total. Gratuities are not included.
Why Private Villa Weddings Cost What They Cost
Before the numbers, a quick note on why private villa events are priced differently from resort weddings.
When you marry at an all-inclusive resort, many costs are bundled into packages: the venue, the basic catering, the on-site coordinator, etc. Their wedding packages are often priced to keep costs down for the couple because the resorts get their revenue from your group you bring with you. They normally require up to 80% of wedding guests to stay onsite. The trade-off are that you get less creative control and share the property with other guests and events, and your guests’ lodging costs are effectively financing much of your wedding costs.
At a private villa, you start with a blank canvas. That means the wedding you build is entirely yours: the menu, the florals, the entertainment, the design aesthetic, every last detail. But it also means every element is sourced, priced, and coordinated individually. The villa rental fee is the floor, not the ceiling, and the event services are what you build on top of it.
Here’s what goes into that build.
The Four Service Levels We Offer
Over the years we’ve developed four named service levels that give couples a starting framework for understanding what different investment amounts actually produce. Think of these as templates, not rigid packages. Every wedding we plan is customized, and couples regularly mix elements from different tiers.
The Lovely Level — Starting Around $20,000 in Event Services
For couples who want a beautifully personal celebration and are prioritizing intimacy over production.
The Lovely Level covers everything you genuinely need for an elegant, memorable evening — nothing more, nothing less.
What’s included at this level:
- Full planning, design, and event coordination
- Two bilingual on-site coordinators for the wedding day
- Ceremony equipment: wedding arch or similar structure and ceremony table
- Full tableware, tables, chairs, and serving equipment for all guests
- Florals: Flower arrangement for the ceremony structure, rose petals in the aisle, and tropical centerpieces for each dining table
- Food: A two-course seated dinner with appetizers (6 pieces per person during cocktail hour), a full five-hour open bar (beer, wine, prosecco for toasts, and up to three signature cocktails with tequila, rum, and/or mezcal), and wedding cake
- Menu tasting for two before the wedding
- Entertainment: Professional sound and lighting package for the couple’s own curated playlist — think: your songs, your way, your volume
- Officiant for a spiritual or non-denominational ceremony if necessary
- Five-hour photography package
- Hair and makeup for one partner
What this level typically doesn’t include: Videography, guest gifts, live music or DJ, fireworks, additional hair/makeup for wedding party members.
What it produces: A wedding that feels thoughtfully designed and genuinely personal. The Lovely Level is the right choice for couples who understand that the best weddings aren’t about production scale — they’re about the people in the room and the details that mean something. Several of the most moving weddings we’ve ever planned were at this level.
Total event services for 50 guests: approximately $20,000 USD
The Great Level — Starting Around $29,000 in Event Services
For couples who want a full evening of celebration with live entertainment and more design detail.
The Great Level builds on the Lovely foundation with more elaborate florals, a DJ, a richer food and bar experience, and fireworks to close the night.
What’s included at this level:
- Full planning, design, and event coordination
- Three bilingual on-site coordinators
- Enhanced ceremony equipment and a wider selection of rental furnishings, including lounge furniture sets for the cocktail hour
- Florals: Floral arch with rose petals, traditional centerpieces for each dining table, candles throughout, and hung string lights across the event space
- Food: Three-course seated dinner, hors d’oeuvres during cocktail hour, a five-hour open bar with a broader spirits selection, cake, and menu tasting for two
- Entertainment: DJ with full sound and lighting setup
- Officiant for a spiritual or non-denominational ceremony
- Seven-hour photography package
- Hair and makeup for one partner plus three additional wedding party members
- Bridal bouquet, partner’s boutonniere, and bouquets or boutonnieres for three additional wedding party members
- Fireworks to close the evening
What this level typically doesn’t include: Videography, live musicians, elaborate floral installations, late-night food station, personalized décor elements.
What it produces: A full wedding production — a proper ceremony, cocktail hour with lounge furniture and small bites, a seated dinner, dancing under string lights, and a fireworks send-off. This is a complete, celebratory evening that your guests will absolutely remember.
Total event services for 50 guests: approximately $29,000 USD
The Fantastic Level — Starting Around $41,000 in Event Services
For couples who want a more elevated design aesthetic and a broader entertainment lineup.
The Fantastic Level introduces professional video, live musicians alongside the DJ, more elaborate florals, late-night food, and guest gifts — the elements that give a wedding its wow factor and make it feel like a fully produced event.
What’s included at this level:
- Full planning, design, and event coordination
- Three bilingual on-site coordinators
- Full furniture and equipment package including premium lounge furniture sets for multiple areas
- Florals: Ceremony structure florals, orchid tropical centerpieces for each table, candles, string lights, ambient florals throughout the cocktail and lounge areas, and themed or personalized decorative elements (welcome sign, seating chart, papel picado, and similar)
- Food: Interactive Mexican buffet with grazing stations, six hors d’oeuvres per guest during cocktail hour (included with the buffet stations), a five-hour premium open bar, cake, a sweets table, and menu tasting for two
- Entertainment: Mariachis for the cocktail hour plus a DJ with full sound and lighting for the reception — two entirely different musical experiences in one evening
- Professional videography — a six-hour package with a polished 45-minute film product
- Seven-hour photography package
- Hair and makeup for one partner plus three wedding party members
- Bridal bouquet, partner’s boutonniere, and bouquets or boutonnieres for three additional members
- Guest gifts for all attendees
- Fireworks
What this level typically doesn’t include: Cinematic-quality drone video, a live versatile band alongside the DJ, fully custom floral installations, or late-night food stations (though those can be added).
What it produces: A genuinely spectacular evening. The combination of mariachis during cocktail hour and a DJ for the reception is one of our most popular programming choices — it gives the evening a natural arc and keeps energy high from the first guest arrival to the last song. The grazing station format is equally beloved: guests eat at their own pace, the table presentation is beautiful, and the food quality from our catering partners at this level is genuinely exceptional.
Total event services for 50 guests: approximately $41,000 USD
The Unforgettable Level — Starting Around $65,000 in Event Services (with no upper limit)
For couples who want a fully produced, luxury wedding with top-tier everything.
The Unforgettable Level is exactly what the name suggests. It is designed for couples who have a clear vision of an extraordinary event and want to execute it without compromise. Every element is elevated: the florals are bespoke installations, the entertainment lineup is comprehensive, the food and bar experience is at the highest level we offer, and the photography and videography are both elaborate packages designed to produce stunning work. Of course, this would cost in the six figures in the U.S. or Canada.
What’s included at this level:
- Full planning and design with per-person coordination pricing, reflecting the additional complexity and creative development this level requires
- Additional on-site coordinator and extra setup staff
- Florals: Ceremony floral installations, tall centerpieces in premium iron pole vases with abundant flowers and foliage for each table, candles on every table, floating candles in the pool, string lights throughout, ambient florals in all areas (buffet tables, lounge area, cocktail tables, garden), and fully customized thematic or personalized décor (welcome sign, seating chart, paper elements, and more)
- Food: Your choice of an interactive Mexican buffet with multiple grazing stations OR a five-course tasting menu with a choice of three proteins, six hors d’oeuvres per person, a five-hour top-shelf open bar, wedding cake, a late-night food station (churros, tacos al pastor, and similar), and menu tasting for two
- Entertainment: A versatile five-piece live musical group plus mariachis plus a full DJ package with professional sound, ambient and robotic lighting, wireless microphone, and live-streaming capability for the ceremony
- Elaborate seven-plus-hour photography package
- Elaborate cinematic movie shot during your entire villa stay, featuring guest interviews, drone capability and a premium film product
- Fully personalized and thoughtful guest gifts for all attendees
- Elaborate hair and makeup packages for one partner and at least three additional wedding party members
- Full florals for the wedding party: bridal bouquet, partner’s boutonniere, bouquets and boutonnieres for at least three additional members
- A two-minute professional fireworks show
What it produces: An event that belongs alongside the Pinterest weddings your friends have been saving for years. This is the level where every element is intentionally extraordinary — not simply nice, but genuinely unforgettable. It’s designed for couples who want their guests to talk about this night for the rest of their lives, and for whom the investment reflects how meaningful this moment is.
Total event services for 50 guests: approximately $65,000 USD
What’s Not in These Numbers: The Villa Rental
Every sample budget above covers the wedding event services. It does not cover the cost of renting the private villa itself, which is a separate line item and a significant one.
In Puerto Vallarta, private villa rentals for weddings typically involve:
- A rental rate for a minimum number of nights (usually four to seven nights depending on the property and season), split among the guests staying at the villa
- A one-time event fee charged by the villa owner for hosting a wedding on the property — this ranges from approximately $3,000 to $8,000 depending on the venue
As a rough planning number: for a four-to-five night stay at one of our preferred villas during high season, couples could budget an additional $15,000 to $25,000 for the rental itself, before event services. Most of the cost is normally shared among the guests staying at the villa; some couples choose to cover it themselves and have guests pay only for their own accommodation if they stay elsewhere.
The real total, combining villa rental and event services, typically lands somewhere between $34,000 and $87,000 depending on the service level, the specific villa, and the time of year. That range reflects the difference between a beautifully intimate Lovely Level wedding at a smaller villa and a fully produced Unforgettable Level event at one of our most spectacular properties.
A Few Things That Move the Number Up or Down
Guest count is the most significant variable after service level. All figures above are based on 50 guests. A wedding of 30 guests will cost meaningfully less; 80 guests will cost meaningfully more, particularly in catering, florals, and equipment.
Florals are the category where budget swings are widest. Our quotes above use solid but modest floral programs at the lower tiers. Couples who prioritize florals and want elaborate installations can add significantly to those line items, while couples who are less focused on flowers can often trim them.
Photography and video are other categories where there is a lot of price variance, but we strongly encourage couples not to cut to the bone. You will have these images and films for the rest of your life. The difference in price between our entry-level and mid-tier photographers is significant; between mid-tier and our best photographers, it is extraordinary.
Season and timing affect villa rental pricing more than event service pricing. High season (November through May) commands premium villa rates; some properties offer meaningful discounts for shoulder-season dates in October or early November.
What These Numbers Don’t Tell You
A budget range tells you what something costs. It doesn’t tell you what it feels like to have your whole group together in a private villa, watching the sun go down over Banderas Bay, before walking into a ceremony designed entirely around you. It also doesn’t reflect just how important privacy is for LGBTQ+ couples or how important is to take the best care of your friends and families.
We’ve been planning LGBTQ+ destination weddings in Puerto Vallarta since 2014. Every wedding we design starts from scratch and is based on your story, your aesthetic, your guest list, and how you want to feel at the end of the night.
