The Mexican Caribbean is one of the prettiest places on the planet, there’s no doubt. The crystal-clear blue water and the dazzling white sand draw millions of tourists here from all over the world. But with such a highly developed tourist trade, you may find it difficult to enjoy the natural beauty here without sharing it with many others. For instance, the vast majority of destination weddings held here at large hotels are invariably under the prying eyes of other hotel guests. And many hotels have weddings scheduled back-to-back on the same day.
At Mexico Event Design, we know that our clients place a premium on privacy and don’t want to be part of a cookie-cutter wedding conveyor belt. We have spent years researching and have gone to great lengths to find you spectacular and romantic, yet private and exclusive locations to hold your destination wedding. One such location is a small island off the coast of Cozumel island that’s a beach club by day and at night can be rented for weddings. The island can only be reached by small boat, and the tourists leave by 5:00 p.m., so in the evening you’ll have the entire place to yourselves! It’s basically just a long sand spit, but it’s big enough to have the infrastructure needed to handle your event.
The owners have built a large thatched open area for the banquet and reception, along with a corridor lined with palm trees leading to the beach. There they set up the wedding arch for beachside ceremonies. A wooden chapel building is consecrated for Catholic services, and there is another area outside, underneath numerous Casuarina pine trees as an option for your reception. Everywhere you look is the unimaginably white sand and turquoise ocean. In short, there is plenty of space and plenty of options for creating the romantic beach wedding of your dreams!
The island also boasts two private cabins, one for the use of the wedding couple, and another six-bedroom house that can host family members. Both houses can be rented for more nights than just the event night, but only by the wedding couple themselves, in order to maintain the highest levels of privacy.
Legend has it that pirates used to hide their ships in the shallow bay behind this island, and that they planted the Casuarina trees to grow tall to help hide the masts of their ships. Those trees still make an impression centuries later, providing much-needed shade during the day, and at night, when illuminated, form an unbelievably beautiful canopy to your wedding reception.
These photos show the extraordinary and unspoiled beauty of this natural treasure, making it an unforgettable venue for romantic tropical weddings. Honestly, there are very few places in Mexico, or anywhere in the world for that matter, that can rival this as a backdrop for an event. While the island’s wedding staff does advertise in the national Mexican wedding press, it is not well known internationally. So take advantage of our insider information to create and design an exquisite event!

LOGISTICS:
AIR–One distinct advantage of using a Cozumel venue is that you and your group can fly directly into its small and convenient airport from major US airline hubs, without having to deal with the much-larger Cancun airport. The Cozumel airport is barely 5-10 minutes from the hotels nearest to this private island.
BOAT–An extraordinary feature of using the island for wedding ceremonies is that you and all your guests will arrive by boat! The island uses its own covered boat when the wedding group has 50 or more guests. And there are even some hotels nearby with docks, so you can get all your group loaded up directly in front of the host hotel and all go straight to the island for the ceremony! This is a really important feature, because the road to the main dock to the island is unpaved and extremely rough—to the point of making some people carsick. It runs through a protected area of beautiful natural wetlands and mangrove swamp, but that’s of small comfort if you have an upset stomach for 20 minutes each way. Arriving by boat either from downtown or directly from your hotel is definitely preferable if possible. For this reason, we recommend this venue for groups of 50-100 so you can use the boat.
LODGING OPTIONS—The island’s owners have made arrangements with several local hotels to offer discounts to wedding clients’ guests. The discounts vary widely depending on the quantity of guests and the season of the year.
RENTAL OPTIONS–One option for your wedding would be to just rent the island as your venue, and we would take care of all the other arrangements. In that case, the rental cost would be a flat $5000 US dollars plus tax, to include the island rental and minimal staff taking care of security and maintenance. As another option, they do offer banquet and decoration packages that are worth discussing. A sample full package for 100 guests currently ranges around $12,000 US dollars.
